2010 marks the end of an era.  The current generation of the Dodge Viper is set to be retired, and it’s going out with a bang.  In order to maintain interest in the model as it is readied for retirement, Dodge has unleashed detail on two special, and exclusive, limited models of the car that feature some welcome mechanical upgrades, as well as plenty of flash.  And of course, the 8.4-liter V10 engine that has made the Viper so iconic. The Allard J2X isn’t a well-known car model, outside of those who followed racing in the early 1950s.  But a resurrection of the brand could change that.  Just looking at the car, you know that it’s something special.  And, this new J2X, the MkII, is one of those rare boutique cars that perfectly marries tradition with modern engineering.  Even the Allard Registry, which tracks the brand’s cars, recognizes it as an official Allard. The Honda P-NUT Concept (Personal-Neo Urban Transport) is the answer to a challenge posed to Honda’s engineers:  get the most cabin room out of the smallest footprint.  The P-NUT will likely never hit the streets as a production model, but it does provide a good starting point for technologies designed to deliver maximum comfort for passengers while consuming the least possible amount of resources. The Mustang Cobra Jet is one of the most feared drag racers to ever hit the track, and the new 2010 model looks to be even better.  The last Cobra Jet came out in 2008 as a limited run of only 50 vehicles, all of which were sold before a single car came off the assembly line.  The 2010 model run, also of fifty cars, is also already sold out.  Called the FR500CJ, the new Cobra Jet benefits from the lessons of the 2008 model to make one of the best dragsters ever.

The Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept has been making the rounds of the brand’s television ads for a while, signaling the new direction for GM.  But does it stand up in person?  It’s one thing to make a standalone concept model, and quite another to make a production automobile that will actually sell.  Well, the time has come for that question to be answered.  Cadillac is showing off the production design of the CTS Coupe that will hit the streets in the first half of 2010, branded as a 201 model. The Jeep Lower Forty is, in essence, a Wrangler that is taken to an extreme as an off-roading vehicle.  And we couldn’t be happier.  Wranglers of recent years have lost some of their off-road mystique, particularly with the introduction of the four-door Unlimited models.  But the Lower Forty brings by the model back to its mud-churning glory.  And it has a huge V8 engine. The HTT Plethore LC-750 just debuted a few weeks ago, but it is a supercar that has been 11 years in the making.  The reason for the long development cycle is that HTT is a one-man show.  Luc Chartrand founded the Montreal-based company to realize his supercar dreams, and he serves as the only designer and engineer the company has. Pontiac may be no more in the wake of General Motors’ restructuring, but that doesn’t mean that one of the brand’s most beloved models is gone forever.  By using the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro as a starting point, designer Kevin Morgan, in conjunction with Trans Am Depot, set about creating a modern incarnation of the the Pontiac Trans Am, a car indelibly etched into the pop culture landscape since the release of Smokey And The Bandit.  No word yet on whether the car will include a CB radio. Subaru is known primarily for two things:  their symmetrical all-wheel drive system and their use of flat Boxer engines.  And now hybrids?  It’s not surprising that Subaru should thrwo their hats into the hybrid market, as that’s what pretty much every car company is doing nowadays, but it is nice to see that Subaru will not sacrifice any of their heritage in order to bring extra electricity to their unique vehicles.
