Officially announced in a GM press release, the Corvette ZR1 or “Blue Devil”, is General Motor’s fastest, most expensive Corvette for the 2009 model year. With a $100,000 price tag, the ZR1 has the most powerful engine available for everyday driving or recreational use. The 376 cubic inch, 6.2 liter, LS9 V8 engine delivers 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft. of torque; which allows the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 to go from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds. Each Corvette LS9 engine is hand-built at GM’s Performance Build Center. Muscle car fans everywhere have been awaiting the 2009 model year with unabashed glee with the expected return of the Dodge Challenger and the redesigned Ford Mustang, but for many muscle car fans, the crown jewel of the 2009 model year will be the reintroduction of the classic Chevy Camaro.
Chevy Camaro fans have had their appetites whetted by the 2006 Camaro Concept and the 2007 Convertible Camaro Concept. The Camaro even made an appearance in the 2007 box office hit “Transformers.” In spite of all the muscle car fan buzz, the Chevy Camaro hasn’t been in production in 2002 and enthusiasts have been clamoring for a new production model since Chevy debuted concepts in 2006 and 2007.
