2009 Hummer H3T

With gas prices forecast to hit $4 a gallon by the middle of the summer, it would seem that the introduction of a new Hummer would be met with something less than unbridled enthusiasm, but the debut of the 2009 Hummer H3T is causing a lot of excitement among fans of the super sized SUVs.

There have been Hummer fans clamoring for a new truck based on the Hummer platform since the debut of the concept small truck at the 2004 Los Angeles auto show. The small truck was dubbed the H3T. In 2006, the Hummer H3 SUV borrowed the same truck chassis as the GMC Canyon and the Chevy Colorado. It was just a short jump from the SUV with a truck platform to an actual Hummer truck. The new 2009 Hummer H3T will hit show rooms by the year’s end and enthusiasm is running high for the new 2009 Hummer H3T. Hummer fans have waited a long time to be able to drive a Hummer branded pick up truck.

But the 2009 Hummer H3T isn’t the small truck that the world first saw in 2004 and it isn’t the smaller H3 SUV with a new truck bed. This new Hummer truck features an expanded wheel base with an increase of 22 inches in length over the smaller H3 SUV. The new five foot truck bed and increased rear seat room from the crew cab of the Canyon and Colorado depends on the extended wheel base. The standard wheels for the new 2009 Hummer H3T are 32 inches although 33 inch tires are available as part of an upgraded option package. The 2009 Hummer H3T also has new locking front and rear differentials to provide increased stability and better handling.

The brand new 2009 Hummer H3T is larger, but it carries the same engine choices as last year’s H3 SUV. The engines available include a 3.7 liter I-5 engine with a four speed automatic transmission or a five speed manual transmission. The high end H3T Alpha will boast more power in the form of a V8 that generates 300 hp and 320 pound feet of torque when paired with a five speed manual transmission. The tow rating for the H3T Alpha is 5900 pounds.

The 2009 Hummer H3T is made for going off road. It has a full time four wheel drive as part of the standard equipment package. Skid plates are included to offer more protection to the undercarriage. It is perfect to haul grown up toys like ATVs and motorcycles. Hummer has a full line of accessories that will help store and secure outdoor fun accessories.

Production for the 2009 Hummer H3T will begin in the third quarter of 2008. No sticker price has been set for the 2009 Hummer H3T. The 2009 Hummer H3 retails for up to $30,000, but with an expanded wheel base and increase cargo handling capabilities, the 2009 Hummer H3T will likely retail for at least $5000 more.
